Grit Blasting

Dry grit blasting (using grit) is a highly concentrated stream of small abrasive particles projected at a surface to remove rust, mill scale, coatings, or other contaminants to create a uniform surface profile for proper adhesion. The surface is abraded through the high-velocity impact of the abrasive particles.

The most commonly used blasting media are aluminum oxide, glass beads, steel shot or grit, garnet and silicon carbide. The choice of media often depends on subsequent metal treating requirements and specifications. Various grades of coarseness are used depending on the material to be removed and the desired residual surface finish.
