Kaytech

Manual Blast
Cabinets: Kaytech has five manual enclosed blast cabinets; one 4 ft by 4ft, three 5 ft by 5 ft, and one 6 ft by 6 ft. All are direct pressure machines. The three five ft machines have powered rotating tables rated at 2,500 lb. The largest machine has a powered rotating table rated at 5,000 lb and has two operator stations – one high & one low. It will handle components up to 68 inches diameter and 59 inches tall. This collection of blast cabinets gives us great flexibility in scheduling production and assures our customers of excellent turn-around time.

Tumble Blaster: Small parts are handled in our tumble blaster. It is a three nozzle suction machine rated at 3.5 cubic feet and up to 350 lb per charge.

Inside Diameter Blast Machine: Kaytech designed and built this one-of-a-kind three station automatic ID Machine. It features;

  • Each station is isolated from the others with individual pressure pots, pressure and flow adjustments, and reclaim system for individual tuning for optimum performance.
  • Capable of handling parts up to 48 inches tall and up to 26 inches diameter.
  • Variable speed rotating tables and variable speed vertical oscillation of nozzles.
  • Automatic cycle count-down system stops blasting after a specified number of cycles.
  • Safety Features: If rotation or oscillation stops for one second the machine stops blasting to avoid any damage to the work piece. Quick blow-down valves exhausts pressure to the nozzles. Fault lights advise the operator of the cause of shut down as well as “door open” and “dust collector motor fault".

Grinding and Dry Ice Blast Booths: We have two 10 ft by 10 ft enclosed booths equipped with 6,000 CFM forced ventilation and spark arrestors. Examples of work done in these booths are flashing removal from castings and forgings, removing hula seals from combustion liners, grinding off zipper strips and other hardware to remove shields from transition pieces, removing impingement shields from nozzles and buffing nozzle support rings to remove rust and other contaminants. In addition, dry ice blasting is done at these booths because the exhaust air flow is adequate to evacuate the carbon dioxide from the building.

Ultrasonic/Chemical Cleaning: In addition to our abrasive grit blasting and manual grinding capabilities Kaytech also provides an ultrasonic/chemical cleaning service. Our new 137 gallon Stoelting machine is the largest, most powerful, most versatile ultrasonic cleaner in the area. Its features are:

  • Capable of handling small parts in a basket as well as parts up to 35.5 inches diameter, or 35” by 39” rectangular, and up to 20 inches tall. Maximum weight is 1200 Lb.
  • A 12,000 watt submerged heater with automatic control keeps the cleaning fluid at the optimum temperature for cleaning and ultrasonic cavitation.
  • Uses four 2,000 watt ultrasonic transducers operating at 20,000 Hertz.
  • All stainless steel construction accommodates various cleaning fluids. We employ various chemicals for rust removal and passivation of stainless steel components.
  • Both the ultrasonic tank and the rinse tank are equipped with 100 micron filtration system.
  • For parts having internal passages the ultrasonic tank is equipped with a system for flushing the passages periodically during the cleaning process. In the heated rinse tank the passages can be flushed with filtered tap water (with or without a rust inhibitor) or can be flushed with an air powered water blast, also using filtered water.

Vibratory Finisher: State of the art variable speed controlled high energy vibratory finisher.

  • 10 cubic foot high energy variable speed control helps dial in the correct vibration speed for different size and part configuration.
  • Vibratory bowl has a curved wall construction that offers higher cutting action while keeping parts in contact with the media longer.
  • Ceramic media is ideal for fast cutting, burnishing, and final surface conditioning with one media.
  • The vibratory machine is positioned with the screen deck outlet directly lined up with the load chute of the heated cob dryer for final finishing and part drying before packaging.

Air Compressors:
Compressed air for the blast machines and pneumatic tools is supplied by two Sullair air compressors; a 150 hp 700 CFM compressor backed up by a 75 hp 350 CFM compressor. Having two compressors provides additional air for peak usage times and ensures we can maintain production while one or the other compressor is down for maintenance. Air is conditioned by a 1,000 CFM Ultra-Air air drier and a Zeks oil mist eliminator. Surge to the blasting equipment is eliminated with a 1,060 gallon vertical receiver tank.

Material Handling: Throughout the plant jib cranes are arranged between each pair of machines. Two fork lift trucks assure that one is always available for loading, unloading or moving material to and from the machines. The plant is equipped with two drive-in doors and two dock doors. This gives us the flexibility to side load flat bed trucks inside the building or to load & unload vans.
